Placements currently offered are as follows:
Playworker
- The role of a Play worker is to work in after school
clubs or adventure playgrounds. This is with children between the
ages of 5 and 11 years of age in after school clubs and up to 15 years
in adventure playgrounds.
- The role of a Play worker involves setting up a variety
of activities for the children such as arts, crafts, games, sports
etc and then supervising the activities and/ or joining in with activities.
- A Play worker works as part of a team in each setting
and all staff support and help each other in providing all the activities
and ensuring that the children enjoy themselves.
Teaching Assistant
- This role involves supporting children during classes
at primary schools for children between 5 and 11 years.
- A teaching assistant is usually allocated to work
with specific children in the class and these are often children who
are low achievers and therefore need extra help.
- The teaching assistant will explain the lessons in
more detail and answer any of the childrens questions. Often
help is required with literacy and numeracy.
- There may be other help, which the teacher requires
such as general tidying up and photocopying.
Youth Worker
- The Youth Service and voluntary organisations provide
opportunities for informal and developmental education to young people
between the ages of 11 and 25 years of age.
- Activities take place (pool, table tennis, badminton,
football, board games and residential experiences) which aim to build
relationship, team work and communication skills
- Informal discussions take place exploring subjects
which affect young people such as drugs, bullying, parents, carers
and families, peer pressure, oppression, sexual health, unemployment,
employment, training and education.
- As well as building based activities youth work is
conducted, through detached and outreach work, on housing estates
and on the streets.
