expectations for trainees

The trainee will need to complete a 35hour week. This includes any training. Trainees will be expected to attend a weekly tutorial with the Intermediate Labour Market Project Worker at the Stepping Up offices at Kingsmead Kabin 8-9 Kingsmead Way on Kingsmead estate. This is a meeting where trainees can:

  • Give feedback on their placement
  • Discuss any problems or difficulties with the placement
  • Use the internet to conduct a Job Search to find the job you want
  • If appropriate attend Employment Preparation Classes (EPC) that will help you to apply for work in the area you’ve identified.

Getting Started

When the best placement opportunity has been identified and agreed, the placement can start!

  • When the trainee starts there is a 1-day induction of the work placement to introduce the trainee to staff and find out about the work.
  • There is a Health and Safety tour of the workplace within their first week.
  • The trainee can expect to have a mentor at their work placement. The mentor will guide and assess their work placement.
  • Every trainee will need to complete the enrolment forms and police check by or on the Induction Day.

Celebrating Achievement

At the end of the 30-week placement an achievement ceremony takes place. This event is to highlight and celebrate the work which has been undertaken. Certificates of Completion are awarded. This is followed by a special lunch in celebration of the achievements made by the trainee at their work placement.

The Intermediate Labour Market project managed by Stepping Up is run in partnership with Hackney Play Service. The scheme is part of the Hackney Works ILM programme.
