5 Things You Never Knew About Communiversity

1. In 2001 Stepping Up developed the concept of Communiversity.

The Communiversity is an approach, which recognises the importance of joining up space used for teaching and learning (the university) with the community (neighbourhood, home, life context). This is about opportunities to learn and access learning and employment, which are local, ‘on the door step’.

2. We think community is important

Part of a community development organisation, we think community is important – the Communiversity works to widen community involvement.

3. Communiversity promotes learning

through technology, sports, music and the arts. We think these are building blocks, which can be used to nurture self-esteem, confidence, learning and development for each person.

4. Communiversity relies on partnership with other agencies.

We recognise specific skills that specific groups have (Hackney Community College) finding creative ways for the Kingsmead Communiversity to access them.

5. Just like a University and College campus

have a central reception area for information and help, Communiversity has a Central Information Point. This is a resource for people in the Kingsmead area to go to, for information and advice about local education, training and employment opportunities.
