history project

Hackney Marsh Partnership Community Development is currently undertaking a major community history project on the Kingsmead Estate. The project will create a community archive, telling the story of this once notorious estate.

Part funded by the Hackney Wick Single Regeneration Budget, the venture aims to document in detail the stories and experiences of residents from the estates opening in 1939 to today.

We have already recorded over 30 interviews with past and present Kingsmead residents. A book summarising the stories including interviews and pictures will hopefully be published soon.
